This gorgeous meadow (which is not done justice by this photo) is fed off of three springs which run down from the mountain.  It is filled with about a dozen or so different types of wild flowers, including a type of heather which takes up to 300 years to grow.  If you step on it, it takes about 100 years for it to repair itself.  We definitely treaded lightly in the small piece of paradise...
and if you hiked up past the meadow, past the springs and over another ridge, you get this view of one of the peaks on Mt. Shasta.  This area is actually called Shastarama Peak.  It was amazing to see in just how short of a time, how many different types of terrain one could hike through.  Beautiful, isn't it?
