In 1978, the first floor of Lincoln Hall at Daniel Webster College united. No one was quite sure why, but the entire floor of 20+ guys just seemed to get along with each other really well. Whether they out playing football, going on a road trip, throwing an 'around the world party', or sometimes even studying (that's just a nasty rumor), they were seldom apart. One day while playing intramural football against the lads from Fremont Hall, someone yelled over to the team from first floor Lincoln and said "Hey, well you guys are just a bunch of cellar dwellers". Well, the name stuck.

As for the spelling of "Cellar Dwellars". Some of you might notice that Dwellar is spelled with an "ar" and not an "er". Ever wonder why? Well this tidbit of history was provided to us by Steve "Cool Hand" Luke:

"Penz, got some history for you. The incorrect spelling came from the first shirts ever ordered. Two alumni, Bill Harris and Jeff Slocum, were not very skilled in the English language and they were the ones who ordered the shirts. Of course when we picked them up and realized what happened, we did the ol' "We meant to do that, yeahhhh, we wanted to spell it wrong because were rebels", and that is how it all began! By the way, Bill Harris is also the man who gave us the first stuffed Fluffy!"

Fluffy was a stuffed armadillo and he was adopted as the mascot of the floor. Over the course of the next few years, Fluffy became the 'spiritual leader' (spirit as in alcoholic beverage) of the Dwellars and has appeared on every Cellar Shirt since.

Since 1978, The Cellar Dwellars at Daniel Webster College have earned a reputation similar to that of National Lampoons Animal House. Our infamous "Around the World" parties have been responsible for getting more than one of us put on 'double secret probation' (thank you Tom Hippchian, former Student Housing Director at DWC!), but for the magnitude of the party, it's well worth it.

Each year, the Dwellars form a special bond with each other and many friendships are made that will endure a lifetime. Each year, traditions, stories, and banners from the years before are passed from one generation to the next. To this day, alumni from years ago still keep in contact with the lads on the floor in order to ensure that the spirit of Fluffy is not lost or forgotten.

As long as there is one Cellar Dwellar left who carries the stories, traditions and teachings of Fluffy, the Cellar will never die!
