So, on May 10, 2001, my sister Gini and two of my close friends Alex and Tim, embarked on a 2 week tour of Europe. During this whirlwind trip, we visited 7 different countries with 44 other people from Australia, South Africa, Canada, and the US. | Day 1: London to Amsterdam. We headed for the White Cliffs of
Dover and our ferry crossing to France. Then through Belgium to Holland
and its capital, Amsterdam for a very memorable evening :)
Day 2: Amsterdam to the Rhine Valley. An orientation tour and a visit to a diamond cutting exhibition. Then to St Goar on the banks of the Rhine. Day 3: Rhine Valley to Munich. We follow the Rhine on our way to Bavaria and its capital, Munich. We see the Marienplatz, with the famous Glockenspiel and that evening, some of us experience a typical Bavarian beer hall!! Day 4: Munich to Austrian Tyrol. A scenic drive through the Bavarian Alps takes us into the heart of the Tyrol. We spending an evening relaxing in this picture postcard paradise. Day 5: Austrian Tyrol to Venice. Spectacular scenery as we head south to Venice. We enjoy a complimentary motor boat trip to see St Mark’s Square, the Doges’ Palace, the Bridge of Sighs and g for a gondola ride :) Day 6: Venice to Rome. Southwards as we climb through the Appennine Mountains passing medieval hillside villages and travel to the Eternal City, Rome. That night we do a walking tour of this ancient city including the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and Piazza Venezia. Day 7: Rome Sightseeing. In the morning we hit the Colliseum and in the afternoon, Vatican City and the Sistene Chapel. Day 8: Rome to Florence. We drive to Florence where our local guide takes us on a walking tour of the Duomo, Giotto’s Belltower, Piazza della Signoria and the Basilica of Santa Croce. We enjoyed a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft, saw "The David" and some amazing museums! Day 9: Florence to Lucerne. A spectacular Alpine drive as we pass Lake Como and head for Switzerland. Lucerne awaited us with its cobbled streets, and the beautiful wooden Chapel Bridge. Here we bought our Swiss Army Knives a few of us got some killer watches :) Day 10: Lucerne to Paris. Through the French countryside to the romance of Paris. Enjoy a first view of the sights on our evening tour of the illuminations. Day 11: Paris Sightseeing. We visit the Nôtre Dame Cathedral on our city tour. See the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre, shop on the Champs Elysées and stroll by the Seine. Tonight, go to a Parisian cabaret and then take over an Irish bar in the Moulin Rouge district! Day 12: Paris to London. Going north we first visit the Canadian War Memorial situated near the valley of the Somme. From here to Calais and our cross channel ferry to Dover to arrive in London early evening. |
