February 14, 2009: Kind of ironic that this would happen on Vaelentine's day, but today Justin moved the last of his items of the apartment and I officially live by myself !!! (well, with 2 cats and a dog :) February 11, 2009: And so one chapter ends and another begins. Justin started to move out of the apartment today. His current plan is to stay with his boyfriend Charlie for a few months and then to possibly move in with one of his friends. I know this is for the best, and I'm certainly going to be happy to have my own place.... but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm a little bit sad as well. I mean, in July of 2006 when he moved in with me, the next 2.5 years didn't turn out quite the way I thought they would..... February 8, 2009: My Weekend Economic Stimulus Package... Hehehe, so this weekend was a fabulous one (yes, I can use that word). During a time when all of us are nervous about losing our jobs and the economy crashing, it's a good time to be frugal and not spend a lot of money. Well, I've been in the mode for quite a while and this weekend was the "I'm going out and just not going to care and spend some money weekend!" LOL well about $1k later, my mission was complete! Here's how it went..... I spent all day Saturday shopping for some new household items, as I prepare for Justin's final move out of the apartment. My journey started in the morning at Bed Bath and Beyond where after browsing only the bedding and curtain areas, I'd leave with some beautiful new cappuccino colored sheets for my bed and new curtains for the living room. Then it was over the Bay Bridge and onward to Emmeryville to Ikea. Now I must admit, I've gotten rid of all of my Ikea furniture (which to me is entry level stuff), but I needed a new bedroom dresser and I just have an issue with paying $500-$600 for this piece. After much deliberation, I purchased a 6 drawer Malm style dresser (color black/brown) with an optional smoked glass top. Though it would take me 4 hours to setup, it was well worth it and for only $200, I had a great new piece for the bedroom! I then went next door to the newly opened, West Elm. Justin introduced me to this place a couple of years ago, and this new store was just full of some really nice items. I'd work with a really fun sales person by the name of Sarah who helped me pick out some new pillows and a blanket for the couch as well as some scented candles and other assorted items for the rest of the place. LOL who knew that those little pillows on the couch could be so expensive!?!? Well, it didn't matter cause I had fun and walked away with some very nice things. By late afternoon, my home shopping spree was complete and I was down about $700. I had a really fun time and in the end I came to realize 'hey, I have a lil bit of design sense in me' :) Who would've known? :P Later on that evening, I met up with Ryan Crowley for dinner. He and I have gotten to know each other a bit over the years, though out mutual friend Justin. He, like me, is also a huge 'foodie' and he's been bugging me to go out and try some high end gourmet restaurants, and tonight was the night. He picked me up in his porsche and it was off to the center of San Francisco for dinner at Michael Minna's restaurant located in the St. Francis Westin Hotel.
Now, this place just exudes 'money' from the design of the restaurant to the general look of the clientele. After being seated and waited upon, we both decided on getting the seasonal tasting menu with the wine pairing. Oh my oh my oh my..... it was bliss! We moaned, sighed, laughed and chatted thougout the entire night and with out a doubt, the two of us had more fun than anyone else at that place. Heheh, any why not!??!! We're paying for it :P SEASONAL TASTING W/WINE PAIRING Foie Gras Terrine DOMAINE DES BAUMARD QUARTS DE CHAUME, LOIRE VALLEY, FRANCE 2004 Seared Sea Scallops PIERRE YVES COLIN-MOREY SAINT AUBIN ‘MURGERS’ 1ER CRU, BURGUNDY 2006 Crispy Skin Striped Bass WHETSTONE PINOT NOIR JON BOAT, SONOMA COAST 2006 Breast of Four Story Hills Farm Poularde (that's chicken :) GIRARDIN GEVREY CHAMBERTIN VIEILLES VIGNES, BURGUNDY 2005 Degustation of Niman Ranch Goat (Scott had this) ALAIN GRAILLOT CROZES-HERMITAGE, RHÔNE VALLEY, FRANCE 2006 OR Japanese Kobe Beef “Thai Beef Salad” (Ryan had this) CELEBRATION GAMAY NOIR, EOLA-AMITY HILLS, OREGON 2007 Apple Tarte Tatin ROYAL TOKAJI WINE COMPANY TOKAJI ASZU 5 PUTTONYOS, HUNGARY 2003 We both also had a drink before dinner and 2 of our selections had a 'small' supplemental fee.
